Firstly, the circles quiz has been moved to Wednesday. This will give you the time to study any material over the weekend, and still have Monday to ask questions. We were going to do it Tuesday, but I have since remembered that league tag is also taking place that day! This also gives an extra day for those involved in Robocup to prepare as they have been pretty busy of late!
Secondly, there is a reduced amount of homework this week and next. This is due to the commencement of the Olympics. The Olympics are one of the few events that draws nations from all over the world together in one place. In fact more countries are involved in the Olympic games than the United Nations!
We will be learning about the Olympics in class - or at least one small story or element behind them. You will come to see they are much more than an occasion for people to compete in sport - they have become a diary of social, political, and economic change in many parts of the world. Additionally, each Olympics seems to provide its own personal stories and narratives, which prove inspiring to millions. If you would like to know more feel free to research or read about some of these events and people in your own time:
First female athletes
Black Power salute
The African boycott of 1976 games
US boycott 1980 games
The Dream Team
The reduced amount of homework means really, there are no excuses for not finishing your work.
With that in mind, here is your homework for this week!
Maths - You need to complete the following two math sheets. These are revision of circumference and area of circles which we have done in class. This would also be good practice for your quiz on Wednesday. The answers are attached so you can use these to check your work :)
Writing - You need to complete a plan for the following persuasive writing topic:
What are the most important qualities in a friend?
This is a little bit different to our other prompts. You are not trying to argue a particular side of an issue, but you will still need to prove to me why the qualities you consider to be most important, actually are.
If you have any questions just let me know. Planning sheets will be given out today (I have left some with Mrs Alp for Robocup participants) but as always, you can also download an electronic copy here in case you lose it or forget to bring it home.
Again, if you have questions about the homework please don't hesitate to ask! :)
