Free verse poetry is a style of poetry that is unlike no other. Free verse poems do not follow the rules, and have no rhyme or rhythm; but they are still an artistic expression. They are sometimes thought to be a modern form of poetry; but, the free verse types of poem have been around for hundreds of years.
Our task today is to to create a free verse poem which we will enter into this competition. We will work on it together in class.
We will brainstorm our topic together and then go from there. You can check out some examples of free verse poetry here if you like.
The presentation I will use in class today (with more examples) is available here.
You can find explanations and examples of Figurative Language here. This will be helpful to you when constructing your poem.
You can also access the Kid Safe website here. This could help give you some ideas on what your poem could be about
